Temporary Microsoft Endpoint Security Engineer

Preference will be given to proposals received where team members are local to southeast Michigan and can work on any of the campuses when/if necessary, with 48 hours notice. Travel costs will be a consideration during the bid review. Remote work is acceptable if communication, regular performance review meetings, and frequent collaboration via videoconference are productively maintained. Preference will also be given to consultant/engineer/team leads that possess at least two years of experience in a higher education discipline given the unique software/systems used in this industry.

Requirements:

  • Resume(s) (names may be redacted) for the primary engineer/consultant and, if applicable, team members of the supporting team illustrating:
    • Engineer/consultant/team experience specifically related to the scope of services section of this RFP.
    • Mandatory Requirement: Education and certifications.         Microsoft certifications are required.

Scope Of Services

3-month contract for a Microsoft Endpoint Security Engineer.  After the initial term, the contract may be extended on a month-to-month basis but is not expected to exceed a total of one year. This temporary engagement is to augment and backfill internal staffing.

Using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Intune, and TeamDynamix (the College’s IT ticketing system):

  • Ensure an endpoint security application (anti-virus/anti-malware) is deployed, kept current with patches/signature files, and functioning at all times on College-owned endpoint devices.
  • Identify high-risk and out-of-compliance endpoint devices for remediation and use the College’s established ITSM ticketing system to document for remediation. Remediation work will be shared between the Temporary Microsoft Endpoint Security Engineer and the College’s PC support team; assignments will be clearly identified/delegated by College IT leadership.
  • Recommend policies and procedures to assist with the above. Assist in the configuration of recommended policies when they fall within the scope of services.

Servers, telephony, IoT, and MAC devices are out of scope.

Proposals will be accepted for time and materials quotes with a minimum of 20 hrs./week commitment. The College desires a 30+ hour/week commitment for at least the first 4 weeks of the contract and 20 hours per week thereafter. This coincides with the Administration’s desire to remediate any high-risk and out-of-compliance devices reported using the Microsoft security tools, followed by a period to monitor for new alerts and remediate lower-risk findings.

The primary team member must have a backup who can step in without notice should the primary team lead not be available. Microsoft certifications are required.

Environment:

  • Approx. 5000 Hewlett Packard PCs, all Microsoft Windows 10 & 11 (A5)
  • On-premises Microsoft Active Directory synced with Entra ID

Reserves the right to interview engineer/technician candidates and validate their qualifications and suitability for the intended assignment before any or all engagements. also reserves the right to change consultants during the contract term if performance and/or ‘fit’ within the environment do not meet expectations.
